Europe has been well-known as a market with very strict standar for every comodity, including coffee. How has Inexim Daklak been able to export there?
Currently, Inexim Daklak is one of
Viet Nam's top coffee exporters. Early in 1990s, we exported coffee directly to not only Europe, but also
America,
Africa and Asian countries. Thus far, there are more than 50 countries and territories importing coffee from Inexim Daklak. For years, Inexim Daklak has exported over 100,000 tones of coffee on a yearly basic, making up 10 per cent of
Viet Nam's total coffee export. It is because Inexm Daklak has pioneered raising its coffee quality. With modern technology, we can meet with the most strict demands from importers for coffee quality. We can export some types of coffee totallly free of impurities. At present, some contries famous for coffee production have purchased our coffee. To name a few, they are
Ecuado,
Mexico, Nacaragua and
Peru.
After
Vietnam became an offical member of the World Trade Organization, how favourable has the market been for coffee export?
Before 1986, Vietnames coffee exporters has tough conditions as we used to export under protocols with
Eastern Europion countries. From 1992 to 1993, we exported coffee directly to Europe and the
US, but we process faced fierce competition, sometimes with quite unreasionable bariers, from competitors. Yet after
Vietnam's WTO accession,
Vietnam's coffee output and export value have gradually increased. Export conditions are quite positive and coffee exporting companies have a chance to compete equally.
To date,
Vietnam has mainly exported raw coffee. What strategy should we project to raise coffee export value?
We are paying strong attention to raise the post-harvest coffee quality. We have provided credit assisstance to the producers and famers so that they can accumulate and re-invest in coffee so as to raise coffee quality. At the same time, the govement should launch the growing, harvesting and preliminary treatment to gain high quality products.
However, curently there are many importers who demand average quality. The export depends on the demand of importers. We are now able to meet every demand, from average to hight-quality coffee products.
For the 2007-2008 crop,
Vietnam's coffee yield has been narroxed. How can Inexim satify importers' demends?
Right from the crop's begining, we worked out through preparations for this issue. However, we are determined to raise and stabillise coffee quality to boost economic efficency instead striving for quantity. Our harvest and processing technologies are improving well. It is also a long-term guarantee for our existence and development.
